Narragansetts Release Plan For $450M Casino - 2004-02-05
The Narragansett tribe unveiled plans for a resort casino it claims would generate thousands of jobs and bring in more than $100 million in annual revenue for the state.

The proposed $450 million casino in West Warwick would have 3,500 gambling stations, entertainment and a 500-room hotel. It would be developed by Las Vegas-based Harrah's Entertainment and needs statewide voter approval, which proponents hope to get in November.

This is the fifth year the Narragansetts have lobbied to build a casino in West Warwick, just about 50 miles from two of the world's largest casinos in southeastern Connecticut.

Binion's Workers To Still Get Aid - 2004-02-05
A national emergency program that has been used to help hundreds of former Binion's employees is coming to and end, but another 400 out-of-work casino workers will still be entitled to receive help, a Nevada Partners official said.

Now, employees will qualify for largely similar assistance under the state's dislocated workers program, said Nevada Partners Chief Executive Officer Steven Horsford.

Since Binion's was shut down last month, Nevada Partners has helped 500 former Binion's workers under a national emergency grant tied to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
