City considering naming park after developer - 2004-02-06
Although his only two ventures in New Orleans ended in casino flops, the late Christopher Hemmeter is in line to be honored with a park named after him.
An ordinance introduced at Thursday's City Council meeting would change the name of Mississippi River Heritage Park, a one-block oasis of walkways and plant life.
Hemmeter, who passed away in November in Los Angeles, was a nationally known hotel and resort developer in 1992 when he bought the 1.3 acre spot that would become the park for $1.6 million as part of his grandiose casino plans.
