Iowa Lawmakers Split on Gambling - 2004-02-08
The odds for additional gambling licenses in the state are too close to call.

A survey shows that Iowa lawmakers are undecided on whether to expand gambling in the state. The survey by the Des Moines Register finds that 47 percent of lawmakers who responded oppose the state granting new casino licenses. That's compared to 40 percent of lawmakers who are in favor. The rest are undecided.

The newspaper says two-thirds of lawmakers responded to the survey.

Conditions upgraded for three injured in Route 116 crash - 2004-02-08
The conditions of the three people hospitalized after a multiple-vehicle accident Friday afternoon were upgraded Saturday, according to an OSF Saint Francis Medical Center spokeswoman.

Robert Kidd, 32, of 2209 Northcrest Drive, Peoria, and William Harris, 26, of 1204 Janssen St., Pekin, were listed in fair condition at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

They underwent surgery after the accident that occurred at about 2 p.m. on Illinois Route 116 near the entrance to the Par-A-Dice Casino at Blackjack Boulevard.
