Group Plans To Resurrect Moulin Rouge - 2004-02-09
A group of black business owners has purchased the long-closed Moulin Rouge property and plans to develop a $200 million locals' casino resurrecting and celebrating the historic hotel.
The new Moulin Rouge will incorporate much of the iconic signage and features of what is left of the old hotel, much of which was destroyed by arson in 2003. Developers plan 500 hotel rooms, a 40,000-square-foot casino, a Motown Cafe, a nightclub and movie theaters.
