House leader craps out with casino gambling measure - 2004-03-10
A House leader who was urging legislation to permit casinos in Kentucky stated Wednesday the measure would not go forward this year.
House Speaker Pro Tem Larry Clark blamed the horse racing trade, claiming its internal disagreements contributed to the legislation's end.

Clark proposed offering constituents an amendment to the Kentucky Constitution that would have permitted for casino gambling. Had the voters authorized the amendment, Clark's plan called for as many as nine casinos within the state.

Constructors tout Sussex slot machine - 2004-03-10
Developers of a proposed $35 million hotel and casino on Wednesday informedthe Georgetown Town Council that their vision could include 600 new jobs, fuel economic growth in Sussex and make the county seat a tourism hub.

The group wants to construct a six-story, 150-room hotel and casino with 2,500 slots on 75 acres next to Route 404, next to the Wal-Mart store on neighboring Route 113. The group has signed a contract to purchase the property for $8 million.
