House Panel Contemplates Vote for Casinos Across The State - 2004-03-10
Foes of a proposed riverboat casino in the southwest Missouri community of Rockaway Beach on Tuesday asked state legislators to require a vote of residents throughout Taney County before the casino is authorized.

Each of the 11 casinos already in business in Missouri were approved by their home city's voters, as required by state law. The measure needing an extra countywide vote would impact only casinos away from the Mississippi and Missouri rivers - which would be only the suggested Rockaway Beach casino.

Updated 'racino' agenda in progress - 2004-03-10
A measure the Minnesota House passed last year to put a casino at the Canterbury Park racetrack is being revised so it would generate more money for the state during the existing budget period.

Buesgens said the modified measure would need Canterbury proprietors to advance payments that the state otherwise would not get until the 2006-07 budget period. Once the casino was established and fully operational, it would produce a calculated $75 million annually for the state.
