Bill aims to pull the plug on slots - 2004-03-03
Two Republican legislators Wednesday proposed closing roughly 20,000 slot machines in 18 Indian casinos across Minnesota unless tribes agree to divide their gambling profits with the state and with one another.
Sviggum, R-Kenyon, stated he wants to force the Democratic-Farmer-Labor majority in the Senate to choose between two seemingly contradictory gaming measures: the threat to outlaw slot machines if tribes do not pay the state and a rival measure that would permit Canterbury Park to establish a casino with slots and blackjack games.
