California desert community supports Indian casino venture - 2004-03-03
City constituents backed a ballot measure that would permit an Indian tribe to construct a casino on purchased property, but foes vowed to block it at the federal level.

The 332-member tribe would construct its first casino close to a freeway on 57 acres of purchased property that would be put in federal trust. The hotel and casino would feature a health spa, slot machines, bingo and card games.

Armed robber caught by Vegas cops - 2004-03-03
The suspect in a series of armed robberies and burglaries in Pahrump and Las Vegas that took place between April and January is in custody at the Clark County Detention Center - and his name is a familiar one to local law enforcement officials.

According to Nye County sheriff's office detectives Ed Howard and Joe Close, Pahrump local Jody Thompson purportedly admitted to robbing Terrible's Lakeside casino and Sullivan's Pub, and burglarizing Tumbleweed Tavern three separate times the year before.
