Perched at President Bush's elbow for an hour-long White House assembly was John Tomke, president of Ducks Unlimited, the country's biggest waterfowl hunting group with 1 million members.
Then in 1989 Hurricane Hugo slammed into Myrtle Beach. In the flurry of building that came afterward, the resort city included oceanside golf, casino boat gambling, outlet shopping, even a Hawaiian "volcano."
