State supports Bluffs Run Casino development - 2004-03-06
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission were in accord over a $38 million expansion of Bluffs Run Casino in Council Bluffs, despite competitors' objections that there are now too many slot machines in the region.

The commission agreed to allow Bluffs Run to include 250 slot machines, which was contested by officials of Ameristar Casinos. Ameristar runs a nearby riverboat on the Missouri River. Bluffs Run is run by Harrah's Entertainment Inc., which also has a riverboat casino in Council Bluffs.

Detroit casino parking structure scene of man's death - 2004-03-06
A 42-year-old man died Saturday night following either falling or jumping from a parking structure at the MotorCity Casino, police reported.

Solomon Bell, an off-duty police sergeant from Oak Park, fatally shot himself in the MotorCity Casino on Jan. 26, 2000 -- a month after it launched -- after losing thousands of dollars gambling. His was believed to be the first suicide inside a gambling hall.
