Tribe ventures to Madera for casino - 2004-03-07
The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians is joining forces with a Las Vegas gaming firm to introduce another casino-resort to Madera County within the next three years.

Casino revenue would not only supply much-needed housing, health care and educational opportunities for the tribe's 1,300 members, but would also boost the county's "struggling economy" by generating employment and stimulating local spending, stated tribal Chairwoman Elaine Bethel Fink.

The two other bidders, Midwest Gaming and Entertainment LLC and Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., would construct casinos in Des Plaines and Rosemont, respectively - healthier Cook County suburbs close to O'Hare International Airport.
