Sides conflict over suggested casino at Rockaway - 2004-03-09
The fight over Rockaway Beach's proposed casino may be going for a statewide vote in November.
But several foes and one supporter squared off Tuesday in the House Tourism and Cultural Affairs Committee.

Chuck Walters, a Rockaway Beach business owner, claimed residents of the Taney County community need the year-round work and worker benefits that a casino would provide.

Tribes voice opposition over casino proposals - 2004-03-09
Denise Sargent and Mikayla Schaaf came to the Capitol on Tuesday to relay the story of lives altered by slots and blackjack.

Both are affiliates of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and were part of a big convoy of tribe members and casino employees who filled the steps of the Capitol to counter what they believe is an anti-Indian gaming tilt at the Minnesota Legislature this year. Attendance at the rally was calculated to be over 2,000.
