Harrah's Entertainment to Advance On Settlement for Vegas Landmark Casino - 2004-03-09
Harrah's Entertainment picked up the gauntlet Monday, publicly disclosing it will advance with its scheduled three-way agreement to buy out the Binion's Horseshoe in spite of the clouded title to land under the downtown landmark.

Harrah's, which is purchasing the World Series of Poker and rights to the Horseshoe name in Nevada, however, reached a deal with Behnen and MTR over the weekend to go forward with their settlement to take over the 52-year-old property, Thompson stated Monday.

Casino project eradicated in Legislature - 2004-03-09
With the apparent demise Monday of a legislative bid to legalize casinos, gambling foes are now focusing their attention to a petition drive to push the issue on the November ballot.

Schimek was proposing that constituents be permitted to vote on an amendment legalizing up to two casinos in Nebraska. Her approach was seen by many as a more reasonable alternative to petitions being distributed that would permit two casinos in Omaha, but also up to 4,900 slots statewide.
