New unit targets casino crime - 2005-01-11
In what officials claim is a first in the US, a tribal liaison unit has been formed by the Riverside County district attorney's office to prosecute crime at Indian casinos.
"This is a very historical event," Lynn Valbuena, chairwoman for the Trial Alliance of Sovereign Indian Nations, said at a news conference Monday at the County Administrative Center.
"This is a win-win for the tribes as well as Riverside County," she said, citing what should be much better coordination between law enforcement and the tribes.
