Cook board members push casinos, not taxes - 2005-01-14
Two Southland Cook County commissioners argue that new taxes on restaurants and hotels as proposed by President John Stroger would be unnecessary if the state would just approve casino licenses for the south suburbs and Chicago.
Joan Patricia Murphy (D-Crestwood) and Deborah Sims (D-Posen) said Monday they are negotiating with Gov. Rod Blagojevich and other state leaders to work out a compromise gaming bill that would solve the county's budget problems before next month. That is when a county budget must be enacted.

Casinos send state $33 million - 2005-01-14
Two American Indian-run casinos in Connecticut contributed more than $33.4 million from December's slot game winnings to the state.

Mohegan Sun gave $17.9 million of slot revenues of $71.9 million, while Foxwoods Resort Casino gave $15.5 million of slot game revenues of $62 million. In December 2003, the two casinos combined gave the state $30.2 million for their slot machine wins.
