Opponents of gambling are criticizing the company that wants to operate a racetrack casino in Bangor for its attempts to create a second racino in southern Maine.
Casinos No! spokesman Dennis Bailey released a shareholder document Tuesday that shows Penn National has agreed to pay for lobbying and legal fees for Scarborough Downs' efforts to have slot machines installed in the future.

Gambling Bill attacked by casinos - 2005-02-15
The British Casino Association officially launched its campaign against the Government's Gambling Bill yesterday to try to get a better deal for existing operators.

It mostly objects to proposals that will permit new casinos a larger number of gaming machines than at existing casinos. It fears the new regime will benefit foreign operators at the expense of British companies and wants a level playing field.
