Lawmakers exempt bars, casinos from smoking bans for second time - 2005-02-22
On Monday, lawmakers in the Montana House of Representatives again passed a bill that would exempt bars and casinos from local smoking bans.
The Legislature passed a similar law in 2003 that was struck down by the Montana Supreme Court in December. This time supporters hope the law is court-proof.
"This is a private property-rights issue," bill sponsor Rep. Bob Bergren, D-Havre, told fellow lawmakers on the House floor.
