A new bill would halt new casinos until 2008

Assemblyman Joe Nation, D-San Rafael, introduced a constitutional amendment Wednesday that would put a moratorium on new Indian casinos until Jan. 1, 2008.

"I think we need to study the effects of this rapid expansion of gaming. This applies to in rural areas, suburban areas, and now we are even being pressured for urban gaming as evidenced by the Lytton deal. Nation said this in a telephone interview that took place late Wednesday afternoon.

Casinos balk at smoking ban - 2005-03-17
Casinos in Colorado casinos are not going along with businesses that are claiming that a proposed statewide ban on smoking would be a winner.

At the present time, casinos do not permit smoking in most restaurants and common areas, but I do not know that we could go as far as to support a total smoking ban in areas where gaming occurs. This was a statement by Lois Rice, executive director of the Colorado Gaming Association. The group represents 2/3 of the state's 45 gambling halls.
