Casinos’ bid is slammed - 2005-03-17
The trade association for casinos has lashed out at plans to build Las Vegas style resorts like Caesars Wembley.

The British Casino Association (BCA) has hit the Gambling Bill for discriminating against British operators.

It claims the introduction of super casinos will only benefit large overseas operators while unfairly penalising the existing industry.

In Detroit, it took 20 years and five ballot issues, the last of which passed by a very narrow margin.

Political consultant Gerald Austin, campaign chairman for current Mayor Jane Campbell, hopes things move more quickly in Ohio.

According to Professor Robin Boyle of Detroit's Wayne State University, that city's three casinos generated $125 million last year in city taxes, along with another $111 million for the state of Michigan. Those other dollars are earmarked for education funding.
