Gamblers apparently took to the better weather at Southeast Indiana's riverboat casinos in February. The three boats' turnstile counts went up by 11 percent and wagering went up 6% as compared to January, despite having one less weekend to work with.

Monthly data from the Indiana Gaming Commission taht was released Monday showed that attendance, total wagering, and the casinos' winnings also went up from February 2004. This included an extra Sunday thanks to leap year.

Communities makes sale pitches for casinos - 2005-03-22
Iowa Iowa's casino industry is posed for a change.

Today and tomorrow, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will listen to the sales pitch from the ten communities that are hoping to get a new casino. Each group will be given 45 minutes. Thousands of new jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake.

The projects include casino proposals in Washington County, Fort Dodge, Worth County, Black Hawk County, Franklin County, and Ottumwa. Three proposals come from the Waterloo area and two from Emmetsburg.
