A Washoe County District Court ruling that awarded millions upon finding that sick hotel-casino workers who decided to work rather than take unpaid time off contributed to a 1996 virus outbreak is not likely to change benefits policies for most employers, according to benefits and medical experts.

The Nevada Supreme Court dismissed an appeal last week by the Reno Hilton, which was hit with a $25.2 million punitive judgment for the outbreak of the Norwalk-like virus that caused hundreds of employees and guests to get sick in May and June 1996.

Gambling addicts ban themselves from Iowa casinos - 2005-03-03
About 240 gambling addicts have signed agreements that voluntarily ban them statewide from Iowa's riverboats and racetrack casinos, state officials said today.

The Iowa Legislature gave its approval to the statewide self-exclusion option last year. It took effect Nov. 1.

People can arrange to be banned by showing up at any riverboat or racetrack, or by visiting any state-sponsored regional gambling treatment center, according to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
