Racing and Gaming Commission renews licenses for 10 riverboat casinos - 2005-03-04 The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission renewed the gambling licenses today for the state's ten riverboat casinos. The annual license renewal included a review of the casinos' overall operations. In that review, it was found that the boats paid 277-million dollars in taxes, 78-million in charitable contributions, and purchased 175-million dollars in Iowa products and services. Wes Ehrecke, the President of the Iowa Gaming Association, says that any new license applicants should pay close attention to those numbers. He says those locations seeking a new license will pay attention to what's needed if they're to get a license. Ameristar Vying for Philadelphia Slots License - 2005-03-04 A Las Vegas-based operator of riverboat and land casinos has now emerged as another contender for a Philadelphia slots license. Ameristar Casinos Inc. runs the sort of old-fashioned gambling operation that experts have said Philadelphia should avoid if it wants to maximize the economic impact from the city's two slot parlors.
